Widespread Protests Across Syria Denouncing Israeli Execution of Palestinian

(MENAFN) Thousands of Syrians staged demonstrations over two consecutive days, voicing strong opposition to a recently approved Israeli law that permits the execution of Palestinian prisoners, according to reports.

As stated by reports, protests extended across multiple regions, including Damascus and its surrounding areas, as well as Daraa, Quneitra, Homs, Hama, Latakia, Aleppo, and Idlib. Participants condemned the legislation while expressing solidarity with Palestinian detainees and the people of Gaza.

Demonstrators carried Syrian and Palestinian flags and displayed banners urging the repeal of the law, while also affirming their intention to continue mobilizing. Marches took place throughout cities and neighborhoods, with people gathering on foot and using cars and motorcycles, reflecting rising public anger.

Reports indicated that Palestinian refugee camps in Syria, such as Yarmouk in Damascus, Neirab in Aleppo, and Al-Raml in Latakia, also joined the protests despite unfavorable weather conditions, including rain and low temperatures.

In the southern provinces of Daraa and Quneitra, groups of demonstrators reportedly advanced toward the occupied Syrian Golan in an attempt to deliver their message. Witnesses said Israeli forces responded by firing illumination flares to disperse the crowds.

The demonstrations followed the approval of the law by Israel’s Knesset on Monday, introducing the death penalty for Palestinian prisoners. Under the legislation, executions would be carried out by hanging, performed by guards assigned by the Israeli Prison Service, with their identities kept confidential and protected from legal accountability.
