Libya, Indonesia Forge Stronger Economic Cooperation
The agreement was formalized during a meeting between Libyan Prime Minister Abdul-Hamid Dbeibah and Indonesian Deputy Foreign Minister Muhammad Anis Matta, who is currently in Tripoli for a four-day official visit.
The discussions, according to the LNA report, focused on expanding bilateral ties across multiple sectors. Key areas of focus include the creation of a regular consultation framework through the joint committee, as well as agreements in investment, energy, education, and culture. Both sides also discussed the potential for collaboration in infrastructure, trade, and services.
"It was agreed ... to form a joint technical committee to address pending economic files between the two countries and to settle previous obligations in a way that strengthens trust and lays the foundation for sustainable economic cooperation in the coming phase," the report stated.
Both sides further emphasized the importance of deepening cooperation in health, transport, and port management, with particular interest in leveraging Indonesia's expertise in managing vital infrastructure and enhancing technical capabilities.
Dbeibah reaffirmed Libya's commitment to broadening its international partnerships, noting, "Libya's keenness to expand its partnerships with major Asian and Islamic countries," and expressed support for continued talks to arrange a joint economic forum in either Tripoli or Jakarta in the near future.
Earlier in the week, Matta met with Libyan Presidential Council President Mohamed Al-Menfi, where he reiterated Indonesia's desire to establish a "strategic partnership" with Libya, according to the news agency.
Matta's visit, which began Friday, marks a significant step toward strengthening relations between the two nations.
